Nava Jeevan Vikas, a Secular Institute of consecrated life was initiated by Rev. Dr.Kurian Thomas, in the year 1992 with four members. Now it has spread out to various places with increased members.

The members are working with the poor and the marginalised women especially the domestic workers, street and working children.  They are totally involved in training, organizing, development and rehabilitation of women in difficult circumstances and  children in distress both in rural and urban areas.

Our Vision and Mission

Our Mission and Vision is the mission and the vision of our Founder-Director Rev Dr Kurian Thomas. We started our Mission at the birth place of our Institute at No.14 Railway Colony IV Street, Chennai 600 029.

Our life as a whole is an apostlate of presence. We express our presence primarily in our professional work and in all activities that promote Human Life and Human Rights with a preferential option for the poor. We live in smaller communities with a simple and modest life style. We do not have any outward sign of consecration.

JUNIOR CANDIDATES FORMATION HOUSE - OTTERI

In OTTERI along with the boys shelter home for street children, we have our formation house for the junior candidates. They undergo an intense formation for two years under the guidance of experienced sisters where they are taught languages, liturgy, catechism and moral science. After two years of formation they will be promoted to the senior candidates formation house at Metha Nagar.

SENIOR CANDIDATES FORMATION HOUSE - METHA NAGAR

We have our formation house for the senior candidates at METHA NAGAR, where they undergo two years of intense spiritual, psychological and intellectual formation. We have committed priests from varied experiences and expertise who assist us in the formation of our senior candidates.

After four years of formation the candidates undergo one year of Regency. They will be placed in various communities in order to have community and work experience. They make their first promise only after four years of intense formation and one year of Regency. After ten years of religious life, they make their final commitment of their life in the Institute.

STUDY HOUSE AT BANGALORE

It was our felt need to have a Study House to educate our sisters in Spirituality, Theology and Academic studies. This dream was realised when we purchased a property at Medahalli, Krishnarajapuram, Bangalore in 2005. We built a House and was blessed by His Grace Most Rev Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore in the year 2008.

Today our sisters are studying in various educational Institutions and spirituality centres in Bangalore to equip themselves for their mission.
